About LotuspetalDj Lotuspetal is a scholar, a lover of good music and good people. Her first recollection of DJing was attempting to use two tapes to mix Herbie Hancock's “Watermelon Man” with MC Lyte’s “I'm not having it” at about 10 years old. It was only natural that by the age of 14 she was a regular Club-kid/dancer at house and hip-hop venues such as Mars and Shelter in NY, Paradox in B-more, and Traxx in Washington, D.C. Her childhood nomadic ways exposed her to a diverse array of genres from House, Soul, Alternative, to Salsa. Over the years, Lotuspetal would find herself digging for records in thrift stores, flea markets and records stores, from sheds in Jamaica, to favelas in Bahia. In 2004, her day job as a College Professor led her to the Girl’s Dj Collective in Philadelphia, PA. Girl’s Dj is an educational group designed to empower women and girls to reach for what they want, especially in the realm of music and Djing. Over the past few years, she has left her bedroom DJ status behind to slowly infiltrate the Los Angeles music scene. Whether dropping ,80's Soul, Slow Jams, House Classics, Disco or Roots Reggae, her sets are designed for dancers who know how to move and get the party started “proper”. Her goal is to help her audience free up and become active participants in this journey called life (even if it's just for two hours). She is a humble student of the trade who is constantly learning and growing with her sound. Just when you least expect it, her international roots might emerge right in time to administer a dose of Zouk, Batacha, or Merengue. Recent events include Do Over, Soul Sessions, Temple Bar,Little Temple (Resident 1 year), Catch One, Body Shop, Tribal Café and Industry Café and Jazz, The Falls Lounge, Karma Lounge (Resident), Beat Swap Meet, Make It Funky Festival and was also a monthly resident DJ/Poet/Vocalist at Jazz Tonic (Broadway Bar, Los Angeles). She also does several private events in and around the Los Angeles area. Email for booking inquiries. www.myspace.com/drtriya www.thebflyagency.com Followers
